1/30 Lead cherub ornament in Temple Gardens.
GV II
Lead garden ornament probably 1695 by Van Nost. Cast lead. Three winged cherubs, facing outward and supporting a basket piled high with flowers. The figures have a continuous garland of flowers which encircles them and touches each body in a different position. The cherubs stand on a built-up base of natural stone slabs which cap a short stone pillar with recessed panels. This ornament, and a damaged companion piece on an altered base, are thought to be the lead "flower potts" by sculptor Jan Van Nost referred to by Gervase Jackson-Stops, "Cholmondeley Castle" in Country Life 19 July 1973.
