Details
BOSTOCK C.P. (Off) BOSTOCK ROAD SJ 66 NE 5/13 Former Stable building c30 metres north of Bostock Hall. 23.4.81 GV II Stable block. Circa 1755 with C19 additions and alternations. Red Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and tile roof. Single and 1½ storeys. Entrance front: stone plinth, seven bays symmetrically disposed. Central 3 bays project and are of l½ storeys. Stone quoins to corners and to sides of central archway which rises through both storeys and has a Diocletian window to the round headed arch which has voussoirs and a projecting keystone which connects with the pedimented gable. To either side are sash windows of 3 x 3 panes with stone sills and wedge lintels. Stone band at level of springing of the arch and above that porthole windows with moulded and painted stone surrounds. Circular clock face in gable. To ridge is late C19 octagonal spire with louvres to base with gablets above and weather vane to summit. Stone mounting blocks to left and right of central arch. To either side are single storey blocks with two cambered-headed archways with stone quoins and voussoirs now containing brick walling to the lower part of the opening with inserted casement windows above. Hipped roofs above with small octagonal spires at the apexes of the hips. The central carriageway has three arched doorways to each side with three-light windows between. Rear: central arch has slightly projecting Cl9 porch with lean-to roof. Diocletian window above with brick voussoirs which cuts across string course. Gable above containing circular clock face. To either side are turrets with square bases which die via splay feet to octagonal body. Lower windows of 3 x 4 panes and inset porthole windows with moulded stone surrounds above. To either side in single storey wings are 3 bays with central windows of 3 x 4 panes with casement windows to either side of 3 lights.
