5/155 Green Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, C18, perhaps early, altered mid C19 for the 2nd Marquis of Westminster and extended to rear late C19 for the 1st Duke. English garden wall bond brown brickwork, 3 storeys, 5 windows, symmetrical with projecting bands at first and second floors. Red tile roofs. Rear extension in hard brown brick with blue diapering: timber framed link between earlier and later parts. End gables altered C1890, when blue diapering and shaped terracotta copings were added. Two gable chimneys and one rear chimney have round spiral-moulded brick flues. Small-pane iron casements (circa 1850 in older openings) at front. Iron casements (with leaded glazing removed) in rear wing. Boarded front door circa 1890; small-panel half glazed back door. The farmhouse retains a pleasant unity of expression, despite C19 alterations. Interior not inspected.
