Details
MALPAS C.P. HIGH STREET SJ 44 NE (East Side) 2/65 Alport Cottage 22/10/1952 GV II
Infants' school, now dwelling, forming north wing of Alport's School, a symmetrical building (see The Old School House item 64 and Alport House item 63 for the centrepiece and south wing), 1833, red-brown brick with grey slate roof. 2 storeys; 2 bays. The front is designed to match Alport House (q.v.) but the brick is redder and the parapet base a little lower. Stone plaque above the door inscribed MALPAS OLD INFANT SCHOOL ERECTED AD MDCCCXXXIII. Ridge chimney and rear gable chimney. The open north side has 2 casements under cambered arches. The stone-coped rear gable has dentilled verges and a blank camber-arched recess. Interior: Not inspected. Alport Cottage, The Old School House and Alport House are an unusual and attractive example of a school built and twice extended in unified style, 1745-1833.
