Details

MALPAS C.P. CHURCH STREET SJ 44 NE (North Side) 2/36 Gates, gatepiers and steps at south-west corner of churchyard. GV II* Pair of gates, gatepiers and steps, the gates made for Oulton Park, probably 1720's (at the time of Vanbrugh's work there), and moved to Malpas churchyard 1773; the piers and steps probably 1773. Gates and overthrow of wrought iron, piers and steps of red sandstone. Arrowhead dogbars; floral motif between each pair of vertical rails in lockrail; leafy scrollwork in central panels of gates and in overthrow, with Egerton crest. Pair of masonry gatepiers, with a tall recessed panel on each side, have projecting plinths, moulded cornices and ornate urn finials. One of 2 pairs of Oulton Park gates. See also item 34.
