20/16 Chequers and Brookfield Cottage
GV II
House and cottage. Late C17 incorporating the structure of an earlier building, with C19 alterations and addition. Timber-framed and plastered, light red brick and painted brick. Corrugated iron roof of Brookfield Cottage formerly thatched, and slated roofs. One storey and attic original three unit plan with cross passage at low end of hall, rebuilt to north retaining original open hearth now sealed, and ceiling beams in C19 two storey range. End stacks to Chequers with former red brick ridge stack backing left hand stack. Half-glazed door to left hand and four ground floor windows, large gabled dormer window; C19 door to right hand with two ground floor and two first floor twelve-paned hung sash windows with flush frames. Interior: Chamfered boxed ceiling beams, relined and sealed back to back hearths.
