Planned terrace of houses. c1870s. Stucco; old slate or
asbestos slate mansard roofs, most with 2 segmental-headed
dormer windows, No.65 bitumen grouted; stuccoed end and axial
stacks, most with moulded cornices and many old pots; parapet
cornice with modillions and coped ends plus stepped acroteria
with moulded cornices. Double-depth plan arranged in pairs
with pairs of doorways.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attic over basement; overall
16-window range with regular fenestration to upper floors and
windows towards left or right to ground floor and basement.
Some original 4-pane hornless sashes. some later horned sashes
and some C20 windows, all in original openings. Stucco detail
includes; rustication and keyed segmental arches to ground
floor, alternate vermiculated and faceted quoins to upper
floors and window architraves with moulded hoods on consoles.
Shallow porches with vermiculated panels, moulded imposts and
moulded cornices; some old panelled doors; glazed overlights.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: fine quality original cast-iron railings
with bottom and top friezes and spearhead finials; tall turned
corner posts/lamp standards flanking the paired entrances.
A late but distinguished example of a stuccoed terrace design,
which makes a significant contribution to an important planned
group.
