Pair of villas. Mid C19. Incised stucco with stucco detail;
dry slate hipped roof over moulded entablature with dentils
and paired brackets; wings with pedimented gables with oculae
to returns; original segmental-pedimented and gabled dormer
windows; large central axial stack. Double-depth plan plus
narrow wings set back at far left and right, each house with 1
room at the front and entrance halls are at left and right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic over basement; overall
symmetrical 4-window range. Original sashes with small horns,
most with glazing bars. Stucco detail includes channelled
rustication to ground floor, the entrance bays broken forward
and with alternate vermiculation, also to central false
quoins; the openings are pilastered and with moulded hoods on
consoles linked to string; quoin strips to 1st floor and hoods
on consoles to windows of wings. Rear is 6-window range with
similar detail.
INTERIOR: not inspected but No.2 is said to be virtually
complete and unaltered retaining many features of interest.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: low rubble road-frontage walls with
limestone copings and 3 chamfered and panelled piers with
plinths and moulded caps.
Part of a fine planned group of villas in the Classical
tradition. Shown on 1867 map.
