GV II

House. 1655 but front mostly rebuilt early C20. Render to ground floor and rear wing; slatehanging to 1st floor of front block; very steep dry slate roof to front with polygonal left-hand end; 4 segmental-headed dormer windows with 12-pane 2-light casements with thick glazing bars; rendered axial stacks with capped louvres, another stack to rear left of front range; lower steep slate roof with rear hip to rear wing. L-shaped plan, presumably reconstructed in the style of the house as it was. 2 storeys plus attic; 5-window-range front; hornless sashes with glazing bars. Ground floor has 2 windows, the centre shop window recessed and bowed; doorway on the left. Left-hand return is canted and has a canted bay window to 1st floor, triple sashes and pair of sashes to wing beyond. To front left is a stone plaque inscribed: "John Hawker Merchant 1787". INTERIOR: not inspected.
