A milestone dating from the late C18 to early C19.

MATERIALS: Limestone

EXTERIOR: This milestone has a bull nosed stop and chamfered corners. The road side face is inscribed `A/LONDON/46/ROYSTON/8/CAXTON/4'. It is painted white and the inscription black.

INTERIOR: Not applicable.

HISTORY: This milestone dates from the late C18 to early C19 and is one of a series of milestones erected on the Old North Road.

REASONS FOF DESIGNATION: This milestone is designated at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* It is a legible example of a pre-1840 milestone in its original location;
* It is a testament to the development of our road network and a reminder of the different perceptions of distance in a pre-motorised age.
