Details
TL 4646 DUXFORD GREEN STREET (East Side) 15/52 No. 28 (Robinettes) 20.8.80 GV II Farmhouse. Early C16 with late C16 and C17 alterations and additions, renovated C18, and late C19. Timber-framed and plastered, painted brick with plain tiled roofs. Large red brick end stack to right hand and ridge stack to left of centre with two diagonal shafts, rear ridge stack. Two storeys and cellar. L plan with stair turret. Main range with additional timber-framed bay to north, added to former unheated, jettied range with substantial timber-frame of two surviving bays and converted to kitchen with inserted stack. Entrance to left of centre with panelled door, one casement window to left hand and two rectangular planned bay windows to right hand; three first floor casement windows with applied decoration to upper lights. Interior: Exposed timber-frame shows clearly the building periods; moulded, stop-chamfered ceiling beams, windbraced side purlin roof to original building. Red brick fireplaces, with chamfered arched inglenooks and niches to main west room, chamfered arches to south rooms. Wall painting in east room. Reused medieval moulded clunch, exposed in passage behind hearth. Reused roll-moulded timbers from St John's College, Cambridge (removed c.1970).
