Details

1. 5141 ST MARTINS WITHOUT BURGHLEY PARK Bath House or Banqueting House (formerly listed under the Civil Parish of Barnack) TF 00 NE 2/515 19.3.62 I GV 2. Circa 1756-1778 by Capability Brown whose master plan for Burghley is dated 1756, and the final account is dated 1779. Neo-Jacobean. Rectangular ashlar building with pilastered corners and ornate Jacobean strapwork cresting, with very tall pinnacles over the corners. One storey. Three glazed bays with intricately carved tympanae. Possibly inspired by the Jacobean banqueting house at Campden House, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.
