Details
PETERBOROUGH 1. 1500 COWGATE (south Side) Premises occupied by Of John's Ambulance llo (to rear of No 40) TL 1898 NE 4/403 II GV 2. Originally a rubble barn of C18, much altered early C19 and in modern times. Steep stone slate roof with stone verges and 1 modern brick chimney. Stone quoins on lst floor, brick on ground floor. Rear elevation has 2 windows on 1st floor, wood lintels, Cl9 hung sashes with glazing bars. Ground floor has long lintel to opening now occupied by small window. Modern windows in gable ends. Front elevation in painted brick, rebuilt in early C19. 4 windows on lst floor, 2 with round arches, 2 with pointed arches. 3 windows with arched heads on ground floor, the glazing given a s Gothic treatment. 3 modern doors in round-arched doorways and flat-arched carriage entry used for ambulances. Modern extension to left, backed bit old walling. Interior:- remains of original beamed ceiling.
