TL 66 NE CHIPPENHAM CHIPPENHAM PARK

6/65 Lodges and entrance gates 1.12.51 to north-west (formerly listed as Lodges GV at Chippenham Park)

II Matching pair of Neo-Classical lodges flanking gateways c.1794-8 built by James Wyatt (b.1746-d.1813) for John Tharp who purchased the Park in 1791. Gault brick with limestone dressings, slate roofs. One storey, entrances face carriageway, pedimented gable facades to north-west with double recessed round arched blind window. Panelled brick quoins. Two round-headed arched hung sash windows with glazing bars flank central doorway with round arch. Recessed door with six flush panels and round-headed fanlight with glazing bars. Gate piers and half-piers attached to each lodge surmounted by two Coade Stone Etruscan urns on stone caps. Original gates and railings.
