Details
WINKLEIGH SS 61 SW 6/134 Smythen Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Mid to later C17 with C18 and C19 additions. Rendered cob walls. Thatch roof hipped to left end and gabled to right. Axial brick stack and one at right gable end on projecting rendered rubble base. Plan: 2-room plan originally with central entry, both rooms heated C18 1-room unheated addition at left-hand end which may formerly have been an outbuilding. C19 outshut built at rear. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front of C20 2 and 3-light casements, none to the left-hand end of the house. C20 glazed door to left and one to right of centre behind open fronted C20 leanto porch. Leanto along rear wall under catslide roof. Interior: substantial ceiling beam visible in left-hand room. The roof timbers may be of interest but were inaccessible at time of survey.
