8/1 No. I (Three Willows) and - No. 2 (Sunny Side) Bank Cottages GV II Pair of cottages, part of a row. Mid C19. Plastered stone rubble; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; slate roof. Plan: pair of contemporary 2-room plan cottages facing south. They are built across the hillslope and the rear is terraced into it. Both cottages have a central entrance hall and staircase between their 2 rooms. The rooms have outer end stacks, that is to say, a gable-end stack at the right (east) end and axial stacks in the party walls serving back-to-back fireplaces. No. 1 is the right (east) end cottage of the two. No. 2 is the left one. They are part of a terrace of 4 similar houses but the straight join in the chimneyshaft between Nos. 2 and 3 (q.v.) suggests that the row is made up of 2 pairs of cottages and this pair (Nos. 1 and 2) are thought to be the later pair. The stucco front has a quoin strip at the right end. At the right end there is an original 2-storey woodshed/store, the upper floor gained from the terrace. The cottages are 2 storeys. Exterior: both cottages have symmetrical 3-window fronts of original casements with glazing bars. Both are arranged around central doorways containing original part- glazed 6-panel doors. However the fronts are not identical. No. 2 has a blind first floor central window and the ground floor windows have pointed arch heads. The roof is gable-ended to right and to left continues over No. 3. The woodshed/store is also gable-ended. Interior: the carpentry detail is plastered over as it always was but the interiors of both cottages retain original joinery and other detail.
