SU60NE MEDINA ROAD, Wymering 774-1/2/471 (North side) Burrill monument 2m S of Chancel, 2m E of Porch of Church of SS Peter & Paul

Chest tomb. c1800. Ashlar. Recessed fluted pilaster at each corner with sloping shaft, moulded cap and base set on plinth and projecting base, lid capping with quadruple roll moulded edge, weathered top slab with moulded and swept base. On long side facing south is the inscription "Sacred to the memory of Ann Burrill who departed this life - July 1829 aged 63 years. Also Elizabeth, granddaughter of the above and daughter of John and Martha Burrill ------- who died September 6th 1828." On long side facing north is the inscription "Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth wife of John Burrill who departed this life May 30th 18--. Also of John Burrill husband of the above who died July 26th 1816 aged 90 years. Also of John Burrill Son of the above who departed this life ---------- 1801 aged 31 years." End panel facing west "Sacred to the memory of John Hamilton Burrill Esq of East Cosham who departed this life Nov. 20th 1819 aged 32 years. Also of Caroline wife of the above J.H. Burrill who departed this life Oct 27th 1818 aged 31 years. Also of their infant daughter who died 1818." Left corner of lid facing south is broken.
