8.5.67 New Inn House GV II

House formerly a public house. Circa early C16 hall house with inserted floors and chimney stacks. White-washed stone rubble. Thatched roof with gabled and half-hipped ends. L-shaped on plan. Left hand projecting wing with half hipped gable. Two storeys. Three window range. Three light casements with glazing bars. Modern door to cross passage to right of centre with modern wooden porch. Brick and stone chimney stacks at the ends and over ridge. Single storey lean-to at south-east end. Later wing at rear. Interior: Jointed cruck trusses with smoke-blackening. Cambered arch doorway in cross-passage and cambered fireplace bressummer to inserted chimney stack. Stopped chamfer ceiling beams. Four centred arch stone chimneypiece in first floor room with initials A.P. and date 1594 in medallions on the lintel. Said to have a timber-framed chimney.
