COTLEIGH COTLEIGH ST 20 SW 11/12 The Old School House - - II House, former school house. Circa 1870, circa 1970 rear extension. Exposed local stone and flint rubble with cream-coloured sandstone ashlar detail and dressings and including some decorative brick; stone rubble and brick stack topped with plastered C20 brick; red tile roof including bands of scallop-shaped tiles and crested ridge tiles, asbestos slate roof to the C20 extension. Plan: 2-room plan house facing east. The left (south) room has a rear lateral stack. Central entrance hall. C20 service extension projects at right angles to rear of the right (north) side. 2 storeys. Tudor Gothic style. Exterior: symmetrical 2-window front arranged around a central doorway behind an original gabled porch which contains a part-glazed 4-panel door. It is flanked by horned 4-pane sashes with sandstone reveals. At first floor level is a flat stone platband. On the first floor there is a single central window; a round-head casement with Y-tracery glazing bars and sandstone architrave. It rises into the eaves and the gable over it (like the porch gable below) has cusped bargeboards. This window is flanked by sandstone quatrefoil panels. Each end are sandstone ashlar quoins and there is an eaves cornice of red brick set at 45 degrees to the wall. The roof is gable-ended and the left gable has cusped bargeboards and the windows below are horned 4-pane sashes. The right gable has a first floor casement and surround made of cream-coloured brick. Interior: not inspected.
