Details
LUPPITT LUPPITT ST 10 NE 6/74 Hawker Chest tomb and railings - approximately 750mm south of the nave of the Church of St Mary GV II Chest tomb. Dated 1727 in memory of James Hawker. Beerstone ashlar. The chest tomb is rectangular in section. It sits on a moulded plinth and has a thick soffit- moulded lid. The sides are panelled. There is an heraldic cartouche on the south side between the 2 panels. These panels are inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The left panel records the death of James Hawker in 1727 and the right panel records the deaths of some of his relatives. The chest tomb in enclosed by C19 wrought iron railings.
