Details

PLYMTREE ST 00 SE 3/119 Buckhurst - GV II

Cottage. Mid - late C17. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; stone rubble or cob stack topped with C20 brick; thatch roof. Plan: small 2-room cottage facing south. An axial stack between the rooms serves the right (east) room. 2 storeys. Exterior: irregular 2-window front. The right windows are late C19 - early C20 casements with glazing bars. These are larger than the others and the first floor one is a half dormer. The ground floor left window is a late C17 oak flat-faced mullion window and the first floor window is contemporary (maybe a little earlier) with chamfered mullion. Both these contain rectangular panes of leaded glass and the original iron casement of the ground floor window has an ornate catch. The front doorway is at the left end and it contains a C20 plank door under a contemporary hood on curving brackets. The roof is half-hipped both ends. Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of the survey but original C17 carpentry detail is suspected.
