2/68 Gates at the entrance to Dulford - House immediately inside the walled park on the east side GV II

Pair of gates at the entrance to Dulford House. Late C19. Timber. Pair of very elaborate timber gates with 3 tiers of ornamentation and long diagonal struts which run up to the finials of the outer stiles, which curve inwards and are carved with animals heads. Dulford House was built between about 1762 and 1800 and demolished in the 1930s when it was replaced by a modest brick house. In the late C19 it was owned by Albert Abid Esq., of Hyderabed, Deccan, India, who carried out some alterations to the house and was probably responsible for these gates.
