Details
DODDISCOMBSLEIGH TRICK LANE, SX 88 NE Doddiscombsleigh 3/136 Whitemoor Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Circa late C17 origins remodelled in the C18 or early C19. Whitewashed rendered cob and stone rubble; thatched roof, gabled at ends; end stacks, left end stack projecting. Plan: Single depth main block, 3 rooms wide with a separately roofed narrow rear service block (also thatched). Central entrance into large unheated entrance hall, stair to rear right of hall within depth of service block. Probably C19 single-storey kitchen block at right end with a 2 span roof. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front with regular fenestration, C20 thatched porch and front door approximately in centre. The rear elevation has 5 dormers to the lower-roofed service block. Interior: Details largely C20. The right hand room of the main block has a C17 open fireplace with a scroll-stopped lintel and bread oven; boxed-in crossbeam. Roughly chamfered crossbeams to centre and left end room. Roof: Not inspected at time of survey. The thatched service block to the rear is an unusual feature of the house.
