6/212 Nos. 1-9 inclusive - GV II
Terrace of adjoining houses. Late C19. Red brick with polychromatic banding and details ; slate roofs with crested ridge tiles, gabled at ends and gabled to the front and rear, the roof of No. 3 replaced with asbestos slates ; axial stacks with brick shafts and front lateral stacks to left and right, corbelled out at first floor level. Gothic style. Plan: Row of 9 houses, Nos. 1 and 9 entered from porches on the returns of the range ; No. 5, in the centre, slightly larger than the others. Exterior: Very well-preserved with all doors and windows intact. 9-bay range, symmetrical overall but with some asymmetrical detail. 2 large gables to the front to left and right ; centre bay (No. 5) half-hipped to the front, gabled dormers between, deep eaves and verges. Plank front doors with cranked heads and glazed fanlights; crank headed 1-, 2- and 3-light timber windows with glazing bars. Nos. 2 and 9 have brick porches on the returns of the range. The rear elevation is gabled to the rear at left and right. Interior: Not inspected but may retain features of interest. A remarkably intact Gothic terrace with nice brickwork detail, immediately opposite the show front of the parish church group value with the 1888 brick Almshouses (also Gothic), to the east of the church.
