BOVEY TRACEY MARY STREET, Bovey Tracey SX 8178

11/75 Nos. 1, 3 and 5 -

- II

Terrace of 3 cottages, part or all of them probably belonging to a single larger house originally. C16 or C17. Solid, roughcast walls, probably of cob or stone. Asbestos-slated roof. Yellow brick chimneystack at right-hand end. A large stone stack with tapered top and weatherings, off-centre to left, just below ridge on rear slope of roof; later stone stack built up against it on ridge. Large stone stack in centre of rear wall. At left-hand end of roof the hipped gablet, probably of a rear wing, visible juist above the ridge. 2 storeys. 5 windows wide. The right-hand window in each storey is C20, but the remainder are C19 wood casements of 3 lights; all have 3 panes per light, except for the ground-storey window of No.3, in which the 2 outer lights have been modified. Large pair of double plank doors, apparently serving Nos. 3 and 5, in third bay from left. No.1 has doorway with late C16 or C17 chamfered wood door-frame, flat-headed with badly weathered stops. Interior not inspected, but probably contains early features of interest, possibly concealed under plaster.
