Details
SX 86 NW IPPLEPEN EAST STREET (north side), Ipplepen 2/133 The Elms - 18.10.85 - II Villa. Mid C19 classical style. Stucco walls and brick stacks which have moulded caps. Hipped slate roof with projecting graduated eaves. Double depth plan with central stairhall and large principal room either side to front with smaller service rooms probably at rear. 2 storeys. 5-bay symmetrical front with gabled centre bay. Painted and plastered archway with Corinthian pilasters rising full height on quoins of entrance floor. Recessed original 12-pane sash windows to first floor with glazing bars and panelled pilasters carrying cornices; outer bay windows have sidelights; round arched central window with bay. Architraved ground floor windows with segmented pediments; outer bays with splayed bay windows. Projecting central porch with round-arched architrave flanked by console brackets. Arcaded conservatories on left and right ends of house : right-hand one is late C20 reconstruction. Late C19 extensions and additions at the rear. Arched Gothic staircase window with geometric tracery. Interior contains original chimneypieces, cornices and joinery.
