Details
CHUDLEIGH FORE STREET (east side), Chudleigh SX 8679 6/42 Nos 23 and 24 including iron railings to front - GV II
Pair of adjoining houses. Early C19. Probably stone, colourwashed, plastered and blocked out; asbestos slate roof, gabled at right end; end stacks. Double depth plan with adjacent entrances on the front in the centre. 2-storeys. 3-bay symmetrical front with adjacent entrances in the centre of the range with moulded round-headed architraves and steps up to recessed front doors, the left hand door (no. 24) with 4 flush panels. Shallow canted bays with architraves to left and right with 12 pane centre sashes and 4 pane outer sashes. Blind recess above front door, first floor windows left and right are 12-pane sashes. 2 C20 attic dormers. Iron railings in front. Interior not inspected. A well preserved pair of early C19 houses which contribute to the architectural character of Fore Street, mostly rebuilt after the 1807 fire.
