Details

The following building shall be added:-

1.5268 QUAY ROAD TA 16 NE (South West Side) 7/104A Bridlington Town Hall II

Town Hall. 1931. Designed by F.Y. Newton (Borough Surveyor) Red brick with ashlar and concrete dressings. Concrete plinth, quoins and moulded entablature with cornice and parapet. 2 storey. East front 15 bays, central 5 bays project as do single bay end pavilions. Central section has portico with 4 Corinthian columns supporting an open pediment, containing the Bridlington arms, and above an ashlar cupola with square lead dome (copied from Chelsea Hospital). This section has double bronze doors in a moulded surround with a flat hood forming a balcony with iron railings to the window above, also with moulded surround. Eitherside are single narrow glazing bar sashes on each floor. Beyond, to eitherside are single sashes in moulded surrounds with pediments, the upper sashes have similar surrounds with attenuated keystones. Eitherside are 4 bay recessed wings with similar fenestra- tion. The projecting pavilions are articulated with giant Corinthian pilasters supporting pediments, with a single sash to each floor with similar surrounds. The north and south fronts are identical, each of 2 storeys and 7 bays with a central doorway, with moulded surrounds topped by pediments on brackets, eitherside are 3 glazing bar sashes with moulded surrounds and pediments, above 7 similar sashes also in moulded surrounds topped by attenuated keystones. The west front, 15 bays, has a single storey 9 bay centre with projecting central porch with double doors and overlight in moulded surround with a pediment on brackets. Eitherside are 3 tall round headed windows with moulded arches with keystone brackets and linking in post band. Beyond are single slightly projecting blind bays with coats-of- arms. Beyond again are 2 storey 3 bay recessed wings with pedimented sashes on the ground floor and keystone surrounds above. INTERIOR. Entrance hall has marble Imperial staircase, with panelled lobby beyond, leading to panelled council chamber on the left and a ballroom to the right. Both are articulated with giant pilasters. The Mayors parlour and other important rooms have good fireplaces and doorcases.
