9/287 Wood End 3/5/73 II

House. 1897 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Bargate stone below, brick dressed, with colourwashed roughcast above; gabled plain tiled roofs. Ranges to rear with brick ground floors and tile hung above. T-shaped plan on a corner site. Two storeys. Massive multiple stack on offset plinth with diagonal shafts above in re-entrant angle to front. Gable end to left, jettied on first floor with one 4-light leaded casement window on first floor, ground floor window wraps around the corner. Two-light first floor window on gable end to right, one first floor window to right of gable and further,between floors window wrapping around corner on pentice roofed extension to end. Door to centre, in re-entrant angle with wing, to rear of porch recess. Large ranges to rear with ridge stacks. Wood framed casement fenestration and square, gabled, bay to street front. Interior: split level. The garden was originally laid out by Gertrude Jekyll.
