Eastern Edge of
Thursley Lake
II
Temple. Lake C19/Early C20, in Beaux Art style. Smooth ashlar with glazed
and copper lantern above. Four flat faces on compass points with recessed
canted angles between. Ionic columns in antis on pedestals supporting
pulvinated frieze and bead and egg mouldings in angles. Bronze doors to
North-East side. Windows between other flat sides with copper lattice
glazing bars. Stone dome above with male and female herms over cornice and
flanking lantern. Stone flagged floor inside. One of a number of garden
ornaments in the grounds of Witley Park created for Whitaker-Wright, the
financier by H. Paxton-Watson.
