PARISH OF BARROW-UPON-TRENT CHURCH LANE SK 32 NE 4/4 (West Side) St Wilfrid's (No 16) GV II
House. C17, C18 and early C19. Timber framed with painted brick infill, and rendered brick. Plain tile roofs. Gable stack to north, external stack to south and one ridge stack. Two and three storeys. East elevation of three plus three bays. Lower part to left has exposed box framing with upward diagonal braces. The ground floor has a doorway to the left with C19 panelled door and bracketed hood. Flanked by glazing bar sashes. To the right a doorway with raised and fielded panelled and rectangular traceried overlight. Single light and 2-light casements above. Mid C18 range to right has a doorway with plank door and C20 hood with, to the left, a 3-light segment headed casement. To the right a similar 2-light window and to the right again a segment headed doorway with plank door and a small square window with fixed lights. The first floor has two 2-light segment headed windows and a similar 3-light window. The top floor has a 4-light segment headed window with Yorkshire sliding sashes. The rear elevation has an early C19 gothick window. Interior: Early C19 stick baluster open string staircase with wreathed handrail. Chimneypiece with eared surround and dentil cornice. The sitting room has a C19 carved beam and two plaster relief panels over the doors, of putti making wine, probably early C19. Ante-room has a frieze of three antique profiles painted in low relief on canvas, also probably early C19.
