Series of Herms and Altars laid out in a Y to the east of the Ring Pond

Twelve Herms and twelve altars. c1730 probably by William Kent and originally adorning his exedra at Chiswick Villa. Ashlar. The altars are small rectangular chests about two foot high and on feet, with bold relief decoration to front and sides. Five male Herms on plain tapering piers with moulded bases and Greek inscriptions. Five female Herms with panelled tapering piers with acanthus and ribbon decoration. One male faun on a similar pier and one male fawn on a plain panelled pier.

The Gardens and Park are included on the Gardens Register at Grade I.
