Details

PARISH OF HOLMESFIELD FOX LANE SK 27 NE 4/154 Fox Lane Farmhouse 31.1.67 II Farmhouse. 1691 restored C20 with additions. Coursed rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings, quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, central ridge stack rebuilt in C20 brick, and a stone slated roof. Two storeys and attics, five bays, with a single storey addition to the west end. South elevation with four 2-light recessed chamfer mullioned windows, and a single light window with moulded surround, beneath a continuous drip mould which steps up as a hoodmould above a central doorway with quoined surround, and a massive moulded lintel bearing the inscription M RS 1691 Panelled door with upper two panels glazed. First floor with four 2-light and one central single light openings, all C17, the 2-light openings mullioned, two single light openings to attic floow in plain surrounds. Single storey extension with C20 replacement 2-light and single light openings which match C17 work. The 1691 date appears late for this style and plan of house in this area.
