Details

PARISH OF UNSTONE ASH LANE SK 37 NE 6/176 (North Side) Ash Lane Farmhouse 31.1.67 GV II Farmhouse. Late C16 with C19 alterations, and C20 additions. Coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with ridge and west gable stone stacks, and a reed thatch roof, replacing an earlier straw thatch covering. Single storey and attics, three bays, with 3-light C20 casements, and a single light opening to the east end. Three C20 eyebrow dormers light attic floor. Central doorway with plain surround, now enclosed by C20 lean-to porch, over which the thatch is carried, as an extension to the main roof. Some of the openings to this elevation have the remains of C17 dressings, included in their masonry surrounds. Interior. Three bay cruck framed house, with a single purlin roof with curved windbraces and ridge purlin. Tie beams have been removed. At the west end, the ridge purlin has been cut to accommodate the insertion of the stack, and the end is now carried on a raking strut bearing on the collar beam of the westernmost cruck truss. Bressumer to hall bay hearth, formerly supported on heck posts, now carried on brick piers.
