Details

DERBY ROAD 1. 783 (North-East Side) No 24 (Walton Bank) SK 14 NE 1/135 II 2. Early C19. Local tradition asserts that this house, and the building in the rear yard, formed the prison to which 200 or 300 officers of the Napoleonic Army under General Rochambeau were taken after being captured in circa 1803. The house is of red brick with double span hipped slate roof. 2 storeys, 5 windows, centre 3 sashes with late C19 glazing bars. Outer windows fixed with glazing bars and small centre opening casements. Those of ground floor round arched. Painted stone architraves. Round arched doorway with coved stucco frame and segmental fanlight. Stucco eaves cornice. At rear, studded door with iron bar latch and small windows with plain stone architraves. Similar fixed windows.
