SK 16 NW PARISH OF FLAGG MAIN ROAD 5/66 (North Side) Range of stables and barn to west of Flagg Hall GV II
Barn and stables, 1681, greatly extended and partly altered in C19. Coursed limestone rubble, gritstone dressings. Gritstone quoins and plinth copings to 1681 section. Part modern concrete tile roof, part stone slate. C19 stone copings with kneelers and ball finial to ridge on south gable wall. Two storeys, three bay C17 section. Four bay, C19 section with two gabled dormers. East elevation, southern three C17 bays, has partly blocked, central quoined archway, voussoired semi-circular head with ashlar spandrels. Plaque above, inscribed 'GD 1681'. Continuous moulded dripmould, stepped over spandrels and plaque. Shallow plinth to either side. To north, 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. Beyond, inserted stable door and 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. To south, C19 door with C19 windows either side. Above archway 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with C18 metal fenestration. To south, flush hayloft door, now with casement window. Below, inserted door. To north, door inserted into former flush hayloft opening. Interior - ground floor beams have double concave moulding with middle and side fillets. Double purlin roof on queen post trusses. Wind braces to highest purlins. Beyond, to north, C19 section with central full height doors. Either side, quoined doorcases with windows to sides. Above, two hayloft doors in dormers.
