CLAIFE B5285 (North side) SD 39 NE Near Sawrey Tower Bank House 6/44 GV II
House. Early C19. Roughcast stone with slate roofs. 2 storeys, 3 bays, with one-storey recessed gabled bay to left, and 2-storey recessed gabled bay to right. Windows are sashed, those to ground floor with horns, those to 1st floor with glazing bars. Recessed bay to left has round-headed recess with top blocked lunette with intersecting glazing bars; recessed bay to right has 1st floor round-headed sashed window with glazing bars, intersecting to top. Gable-end stacks. Entrance has fanlight and half-glazed door; later gabled porch with reeded angle pilasters. Rear has sashed windows and 2 windows with small-paned fixed glazing with opening lights. Interior has enriched cornices. Property of the National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
