Underley Grange
II
House. Late C18. Dressed limestone with sandstone ashlar dressings and slate
roof. Central entrance plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays, the central bay breaks forward
under pediment. Ashlar base, 1st floor sill band, quoins; moulded gutter.
Windows have ashlar surrounds and are sashed with glazing bars, those to ground
floor are tripartite. Entrance has overlight with glazing bars, side lights and
9-fielded-panel door; pediment overall. 2 cross-axial stacks. Returns similar,
round-headed stair window to left. Rear has lean-to range and 2 gabled ranges,
sashed windows and various stacks. Short ramped wall attached to left return
has square rusticated gate pier with ball finial, and gate, one of a pair
linking this item with outbuilding to south (q.v.). Attached 3-bay cottage and
barn to rear of house are of no special interest.
