Details
EGTON AND NEWLAND SD 38 SW 4/89 Summer Hill 25.3.70 II
House. Late C18 with early C19 additions to east and west. Roughcast stone with stucco to 1st floor and ashlar dressings and hipped slate roof. East elevation of 2 storeys and 3 bays. Central entrance plan. Band over ground floor and 1st floor sill band, top cornice. Windows have late C19 casements, those to ground floor in architraves and keystones, those to 1st floor with half-fluted pilasters, cornices and keystones. Entrance has Doric porch with paired columns; triglyph-frieze; architrave and panelled door with overlight. 2 cross-axial stacks. South elevation similar, 3 bays with added bay to each end and further, lower bay to west end. Verandah has slender cast iron columns and glazing to returns. C20 extension to west, formerly cottage, is not of special interest. North elevation has round-headed stair window over roundel; some sashed windows with glazing bars. Interior has round entrance hall with niches and dome with rosette. Hall has 3-bay arcade to one side and rib vault. Some early C19 features: fireplaces, cornices and enriched elliptical-headed alcoves; stair has turned balusters and newel; some late C19 panelling and inglenook fireplace.
