Details
DRIGG AND CARLETON A595 SD 09 NE (north side) 7/12 Carleton Hall, out- buildings and stable 8.9.67 cottage - II House. c.1790s. Stuccoed stone with ashlar dressings and slate roof. North-east elevation of 2 storeys has 3-bay centre with lower recessed wings and 2 further bays to left, the 1st projecting under hipped roof. Centre has moulded base, frieze and cornice, coped gables. Windows are sashed with glazing bars, tall windows to ground floor, 2 similar windows to ground floor of each wing. 2 bays to left have smaller sashed windows with glazing bars. Entrance has Tuscan porch with frieze and cornice, half-glazed door. North-west return has headstone, Cuthbert Atkinson (died 1816) obelisk, armorial bearing urn, etc. South-west elevation has Tripartite sashed windows with glazing bars, wing to right has flat-roofed outshut with 24-pane sashes and entrance, and bay projects with sashed windows. Courtyard to south-east flanked by outbuildings and stable to south, of 2 storeys. Roof hipped to one end, south-west elevation of 3 bays, sashed windows with glazing bars, blocked central elliptical-headed cart entrance with inserted sash, similar blocked entrance to south-east has round-headed window over, glazed entrance and garage door with pitching hole over, casements to north-west elevation. Interior of hall has later teak stair, some panelled doors in architraves and cornices.
