NY 40 SE KENTMERE
4/4 Longhouses Farmhouse 12.2.62 and attached shippon
II Farmhouse and attached shippon with hayloft at higher level. House has initials and date WFD 1703 (for William and Dorothy Fleming) in diamond shaped plaster panel with raised inscription over porch, but structure is C17 or earlier; later extension to rear. Limewashed rubble walls; graduated green slate roof; stone ridge; end chimneys. 2 storeys. 3 windows, irregular. Central gabled stone porch (probably later addition) with slate roof and heavy boarded and studded door in plain timber surround. One fixed light window and one York slider to either side under continuous slate drip. Upper floor has one fixed light window with chamfered timber mullion and 2 York sliders. Interior has ingle-nook with inserted C18 fireplace; chamfered beams; moulded plank and muntin partitions to lower floor; 3-stage cupboard with initials and date WFD 1711 and small spice cupboard with same initials and date 1708; dog-leg stair with stone lower flight; plank and muntin partition with plaster infil to upper floor. Shippon and hayloft probably late C18. Rough slate rubble walls with protruding through stones, graduated green slate roof, continuous slate canopy protecting shippon doors.
