2/16 The Abbey II
House, now divided into 2. C16 thoroughly refurbished during C17; later alterations and additions. Roughcast render; graduated greenslate roof; 3 chimneys. Irregular H-plan. 2 storeys. South-west elevation at right angles to road: C20 lean-to porch with glazed door, scattered fenestration, C20 casements and sashes. Interior of Eastern house: 3-bay upper-cruck roof with chamfered curved collars over Hall originally open to roof; 2 bay king-post roof to extension; re-used beams; C17 panelled doors; spice cupboard with iron butterfly hinges. Oak staircase with closed string, square newels and turned balusters rising through to attics. Living room has oak moulded panelling with heavy cornice and fire surround and cupboard in thickness of wall to left. Upper floor has C17 doors, one with decorative iron hinges; 2 fireplaces,one with carved fireplace beam. Included mainly for interior features.
