5/154 New Shelve Farmhouse 26.4.68. II

House. Late C17 withearly C19 alterations. Chequered red and grey brick with plain tile roof. Double depth. 2 storeys, attics and semi-basement on stone plinth with plat band and deep coved eaves cornice. Hipped roof, hips returning along side elevations. 2 multiple brick ridge stacks, one to centre of each side elevation. 2 hipped dormers. Irregular fenestration of 2 large early C19 tripartite sashes and a smaller blocked central window. Ground floor, windows have segmental heads. 3 glazing-bar sashes, each different, to right side elevation. A few original wood mullioned and transomed windows to rear elevation. Ribbed door under segmental-headed window with rubbed brick voussoirs in flat-roofed C19 red brick porch with moulded wood cornice, up 7 steps; Interior: Late C17 well staircase from ground floor to attic with moulded handrail, twisted balusters and knobs and balls to newel posts. Closed string. Left-hand ground-floor room has slightly recessed panelling with raised boarders, pilaster-type panels with capitals either side of fireplace overmantle, and moulded cornice. Sunk panelling to attic stair well. Contemporary fireback.
