Details
RAMSGATE MEETING STREET TR 3865 SW (west side) 9/257 Former Congregational Church GV II Congregational Church, now warehouse. 1838 by James Wilson. White brick with rendered details in Gothic style. Two storey entrance facade with plinth, string course and moulded parapet,gabled over whole facade, with paired flanking outer buttresses, and larger pinnacled buttresses to centre, with quatrefoil in gable, and 7 lancets on 1st floor, the 5 centre paired and raised to centre in moulded surrounds. Five lancets to ground floor, with traceried doors with traceried panelled fanlights to left and to right in multi-moulded arched surrounds. Rendered shields to centre: Founded Erected Marble sarcophagus attached to centre. AD AD Porch to right return, with fine traceried 1662 1838 panelled and glazed door, panelled traceried apron and Y-traceried fanlight in moulded surround, the redeeming feature of a somewhat weak design. The same architect designed Cavendish Baptist Chapel (item 13/82 ) in same materials and fashion, but with Neo-Norman details (Busson, Ramsgate, 68; B.O.E. Kent II 1983, 4267).
