TQ 49 SW CHIGWELL HIGH ROAD WEST SIDE 4/37 Oak Cottage GV II

House, C18, extended in C19. Timber framed, stock brick facing to front and approx. 3 metres of each side, Flemish bond, some roughcast rendering on S11 side, weatherboarded elsewhere, slate roof. Aligned approx. NE-SW, aspect SE, with external chimney stack at each side, central entrance hall. Small single- storey extension at SW end of main elevation. 2-storey lean-to to rear, with external chimney stack on rear wall, C19. Single storey brick extension to rear. 2 storeys with attics. 3-panelled door, rectangular light over with tracery of tangential semi-circles. Wooden doorcase of 2 engaged Corinthian columns, frieze and swept-up architrave, depressed segmental pediment. On ground floor 2 double-hung sash windows of 6 lights under flat arches of gauged brick. On first floor 3 similar windows. Parapet with stone coping, mansard roof with 3 flat-roofed dormers.
