GV II
Service wing of mansion, now a house. Circa 1750, for John Williams, converted in C20. Red brick in Flemish bond, roofed with slate. Rectangular plan with entrance elevation to NE. Central stack, one internal stack against front wall near left end, one internal stack at right end. Single-storey wing with hipped roof to right, and C19 single-storey range beyond, now partly a garage. 2 storeys. Ground floor, 4 sashes of 12 lights with flat arches of gauged brick, and one dummy window in front of stack, each set back in a recess with a semi-circular arch of gauged brick. A sixth recess is blocked by a C20 flat-roofed porch with entrance to left. First floor, 4 sashes of 6 lights with flat arches of gauged brick, and 2 similar blank apertures. Plain string. Simple cornice. Hipped roof of shallow pitch. SW (garden) elevation, 5 C20 French windows and, one sash, in original apertures with flat arches of gauged brick, set back in recesses with semi-circular arches of gauged brick. First floor, 6 original sashes of 6 lights with crown glass and flat arches of gauged brick. An attached garden wall projects forward at the left end. At the right end an attached wall extends sidewards to connect this block with Felix Hall (item 5/235, q.v.). (B.L. Kentish, Kelvedon and its Antiquities, 1974, 28-30).
