House, now 3 shops. C14 and C17, altered in 1902. Timber framed, plastered with exposed imitation framing and partly hung with red ornamental tiles, roofed with red plain tiles. C14 crosswing at left, C17 main range possibly including remnants of C13 open hall on same site. Front range 1902. 2 storeys. The ground floor has 2 shopfronts, and entrance and early C20 casement to no. 72 (Post Office). First floor has 1:3:1 window range of early C20 sashes with glazing bars in upper sashes only; sashes at each end have side-lights. Gable at each end of front elevation. Pierced crested tiles on ridge. Much of the original frame is exposed internally, with jowled posts, arch-braced wall frames, and some smoke-blackened medieval rafters re-used in C17 raised roof of the hall block (Wherein I Dwell, Earls Colne WEA, 1983, 34).
