TL 73 SE GREAT MAPLESTEAD SIBLE HEDINGHAM ROAD 3/124 Hopwells Farmhouse 7.8.52 GV II
House. C15 origin rear range with C16, C17 and later additions and alterations. C16 or earlier front range with later alterations including re-roofing circa 1820. Timber framed and plastered. Hipped grey slate roof to front range. Projecting eaves with late C16 or early C17 carved brackets. Red plain tiled roof to rear range. Central plastered chimney stack. 2 storeys. Full length open red tiled porch at first floor level with central gable. 4 window range of C18/C19 small paned vertically sliding sashes to first floor. Three C20 bay windows with casements to ground floor. 4 bay rear range with heavy timber studding. C15 halved and bridled scarfs. Original first floor to kitchen. Other floor inserted C16/17. Chimney stack inserted circa 1630. Roof late C16 of thin braced two armed crown post construction. Early C16 a two storey crosswing was added. Front range fireplace and chimney stack circa 1550. Good circa 1620 staircase. Several doors and window of late C16 with ironmongery. Wall paintings circa 1680 (E.C. Rouse) and panelling of contemporary date. RCHM 20.
