TOLLESHUNT D'ARCY MALDON ROAD TL 91 SW (south-east side) 3/69 Brook House Farmhouse - II

House. C16 or earlier, extended in late C19. Timber framed and brick, mainly plastered, roofed with concrete tiles. 4 bays aligned NE-SW with axial stack, and single-storey lean-to extension at NE end. Parallel range to SE, C16/C17, with external stack on SE side. Large square late C19 extension of plastered brick with slate roof, to W, with central stack, and single-storey lean-to extension in N angle. 2 storeys. SW elevation, ground floor, one splayed bay, one C20 sash, one C20 casement, C20 French windows. First floor, 3 C20 sashes. 6-panel door with overlight and plastered architrave. Late C19 cusped bargeboards on both front gables. Jowled posts, heavy studding, chamfered beams, plain joists of large horizontal section, housed into beams. Wide boarded door to NW with original hinges and bolt. 2 large wood-burning hearths of 0.33 metre brickwork, back to back, one blocked, the other reduced for modern grate. The main range has the original gablet hip and sprockets at the NE end; interior of roof not inspected.
