Details

1. BROOMFIELD HOLLOW LANE 5213 Priors

TL 60 NE 8/46 29.12.52.

II 2. Originally a mid C16 red brick moated house much altered in the C17 and C18. The south-east cross wing was rebuilt in the C20. 2 storeys and attics. Casement windows with leaded lights. The south-west side was probably the original front, perhaps with a 2 storeyed porch, but it was much altered in the C18. The north-east side, now the front, has 2 small gabled wings projecting on the front of the main block, with exposed timber-framing. There is an early C17 staircase wing with C18 extension. The north-west wing has several original brick mullioned windows, a bay window and the remains of original moulded string course. Roof tiled, with 2 segmental headed dormers in the south-west side and an original central chimney stack with 4 octagonal shafts, partly restored, on a square base. The interior has good original features including a staircase of circa 1600 and 2 rooms with C16-C17 panelling. (RCHM 3).
